MILLENNICON-4®
March 21 - 23, 1997
ART SHOW GUIDELINES
MillenniCon is a regional convention appealing to a cross-section of science fiction and fantasy fans. We encourage both new and established artists to enter artwork in the art show.
The flat art will be hung on light grey pegboard panels. Thee-dimensional art will be displayed on cloth covered tables. We have a display case which can be used for items that require protection. The art room has no windows and the lighting is standard hotel ballroom lighting.
Theme
We would like to display artwork with a science fiction, fantasy, fannish or science related theme or subject.
Fees
The hanging fee of 25 cents per piece. The artshow will take a 10% commission on all sales. This fee structure has allowed the art show to break even in the past and covers the cost of forms, correspondence and hanging panels.
Awards
We will be giving awards for the "Best of Show" as judged by the show attendees. There will be separate categories for professional, semi-pro and amateur. For our purposes, Professional is one who makes at least 75% of his/her income doing art, semi-pro is one who has been published or makes sales in convention art shows but does not consider art to be a major source of income, and amateur is one who has not entered an art show or has made only minor sales.
Artist Alley
We will be providing a table tn the art room for artists to demonstrate their craft. Please let us know if you are interested, Sign up for time will begin during artist check-in on Friday.
Mail-in
We will be accepting mail-in art. Indicate that you will be shipping your artwork when you request bid sheets. We are know for our rapid return of un-sold art and for quick payment of artists; within a week after the convention.
Auction
We are planning to have one auction on Saturday Night. Two bids are required for a piece to go to auction. Pieces with a single bid when the art show closes Saturday will be sold to the sole bidder.
Direct Sale Option
Since the convention is selling one-day memberships, the art show is offering the direct sale option. The artist may set a price that someone can pay to immediately purchase a piece that has no bids on it (this is also know as the quick sale price). When someone writes the direct sale price as the first bid, no more bids are accepted and the piece is marked as sold. We encourage the buyers to leave the piece on display until the show closed for the day. Art will be sold at the direct sale price on Sunday unless the artist indicates otherwise. The artist may choose not to sell on Sunday or set some other price.
